🌱 I am Jiyeon T, the teacher who helps create the ‘moment of understanding’ in science. I have witnessed students who came to me through word of mouth, and children whose grades were previously stagnant, achieve results of over 90 points. My classes are not designed to make already good students even better, but rather to help students who fear science understand it and gain confidence. 👩🏻‍🏫 Rather than striving to be a perfect teacher, I am a teacher who constantly contemplates and researches how to help each and every student understand science a little better and gain a little more confidence. I believe that science is not a subject to be memorized and moved on from, but one that leads to grades only when concepts are understood and connected. Therefore, in my classes, I place the utmost importance on the process of naturally organizing concepts in one's mind, rather than on problem-solving. 💬 A Class Where It’s Okay to Make Mistakes and Feel Free to Ask Questions I converse frequently with students during class, and together we pinpoint where they get stuck, which concepts they find confusing, and why they repeatedly make mistakes on the same types of problems. Through this process, I hope students come to believe that "Science is manageable, even if you think it’s okay to make mistakes and feel comfortable asking questions." The direction of my classes is to help students gradually build confidence in a setting where it is okay to get things wrong and feel free to ask questions. 📈 Changes Proven by Grades ✔️ All 7 students in my recent class showed grade improvement ✔️ 5 of them: 70s → 90s ✔️ 1 student: 50s → 90s ✔️ Produced a student who achieved a perfect score of 100 on all midterms, finals, and performance assessments While talking on the phone with students who had just taken a science exam, I once heard this from a student I didn't know at all. “It’s rumored at OO Middle School that you teach science really well. I want to attend too!!” That single remark still remains in my memory. More than half of the students I taught received scores of 90 or higher, and I felt an even greater sense of reward because these were not students who were naturally gifted.
