I am Ha Young-kwang, an elementary math teacher. I want to grow alongside children who want to excel in math but feel lost because they don't know how. [Key Background] I have been teaching children as an elementary math teacher at an alternative school. After graduating from the Department of Christian Education at Korea Baptist Theological University, I have consistently contemplated an educational approach that looks at the heart and growth process of each individual child. Based on these experiences, I prepare classes that respect each individual's level of understanding and pace. [Target Audience and Direction] My classes are designed for elementary students and cover math content appropriate for their grade level. I prioritize students who have the desire but are struggling because they don't know how, as well as those who lack interest yet but still have the desire to "try their best." Starting from the child's current level, I guide them to build the sense that "I, too, can do math." [Teaching Style and Atmosphere] In my classes, I always connect what was learned in the past with what is currently being learned. If we start with concepts children already know, they will feel comfortable with unfamiliar material and feel less burdened. We learn by examining the structure together, checking where each concept comes from and how it connects to future content. During class, I allow for room to make mistakes and create an atmosphere where they can calmly reflect on the material. I structure the flow of explanations, questions, and practice simply and clearly so that children can immerse themselves and feel, "I know this." [Child Growth and Class Goals] My goals for the class are as follows: - They will be able to explain learned concepts in their own words. - They will be able to distinguish problem types and independently choose which concepts to apply. - Through the experience of solving problems on their own, they will feel a sense of accomplishment and develop a desire to grow and advance to the next level. I will help children build a sense of "I am capable" through mathematics. Even if we proceed slowly, I will stay with them until they can articulate what they understand and solve problems on their own.
