This class is designed to help students develop deeper thinking and stronger reading skills through Shakespeare’s most famous tragedies: Hamlet – Otello – King Lear – Macbeth

Many people have heard the line,

"To be or not to be, that is the question"

but this class goes beyond seeing famous quotes. Students will explore the full meaning behind key scenes and learn how literature connects to real human emotions, conflicts and choices that still feel relevant today.

Instead of simply reading difficult texts, students will learn why literature matters, how to think critically,

and how to express their own thoughts with confidence.

Even if Shakespeare feels intimidating at first, I guide students step by step at a level they can understand.

Even younger learners can successfully approach high school-level materials with the right support.

Class Structure

Each work is covered in two sessions

In this class, students will:

-          Read and understand key scenes from Hamlet, Othello, King Lear, and Macbeth through selected excerpts

-          Share and express their ideas about characters, conflicts, and themes

-          Organize their thoughts and articulate them in speaking and writing

Recommended for students who:

• Are ages 15-19 and want to start reading literary classics

• Want to develop critical thinking and interpretation skills

• Enjoy exploring stories from different perspectives  

50-minute class flow

-          Introduce and overview of the day’s text (10 min)

-          Reading and interpreting selected key scenes (20 min)

-          Discussion of characters, themes, and conflicts (20 min)

What makes this class special

-          This class is not about just reading a difficult book. Students actively engage with important scenes, discover themes that interest them, and learn to articulate their own ideas in a supportive, encouraging environment

-          As students talk about what they notice, what surprised them, and how they feel about the

Characters’ choices, classic literature becomes much more accessible. My objective is to help students

Grow into confident readers and thoughtful speakers who can interpret literature in their own words.

-          With my Asian background and my experience studying European cultures and languages, I aim to enrich students’ learning in ways that broaden their horizons and deepen their understanding of the global world
