I have been teaching math to about 50 middle and high school students for the past five years. I am very strong at difficult math, to the extent that two of my students raised their mock exam scores from Grade 4 to Grade 2! In the 2023 CSAT results, I achieved success with four students accepted to Jeonbuk National University School of Dentistry, Kyung Hee University School of Medicine, Ewha Womans University School of Engineering, and Gachon University Department of New Drug Development. Currently, I am also working as an academy instructor in Jeonju. What I realized while tutoring middle and high school students is that "the foundation of elementary school math is important." There were often cases where students couldn't progress to the next level due to a lack of basic elementary math skills. Seeing this, I realized that I needed to conduct math classes that could be sustained, rather than just classes that end after elementary school, and that is how I teach now. As someone who believes that math foundations are crucial, let me share how I conduct my classes. First, I prefer a method where I continue explaining until the child fully understands the concept. If there is even a part they do not understand, I provide assistance to resolve that as well. A solid foundation of concepts is essential so they do not falter when it comes to application problems later on! Second, rather than applying concepts to problems, I extract concepts from within the problem itself. Anyone can solve problems using concepts. However, if you don't know which concept is required for the problem, that concept won't be used to solve it. Therefore, I practice extracting concepts from the problem by asking children what the problem demands of them and what concepts are needed. Third, I try to avoid drawing the pencil first as much as possible when solving problems. Picking up a pencil immediately upon seeing a problem implies that a proper analysis of the problem has not preceded it. So, I encourage students to analyze the problem and organize their thoughts before attempting to solve it. I conduct fun lessons by communicating interactively with the child and analyzing the problem through a chain of follow-up questions.
